6/26/2017

Puff was rescued from Palm Beach Animal Control where she was at risk of being euthanized. She was found roaming the streets of Florida as a stray and was suffering from severe skin irritation and hair loss as a result of having been infested with fleas. Her then foster-mom and now forever-mom, Sara Buchbinder, provided Puff with the love and care needed to start her healing process. Today, Sara and Puff have found a lasting bond together that will bring them both years of happiness and joy. A special thanks to Tanis Whyte for her outstanding veterinary services and to Pet Spot for providing the grooming. We love you all!!

This week Lamb was officially adopted by a great family who loves him with all their heart. We are so happy for you Lamb! Happy Tails extends a very special thanks to his fosters Kate Britten and Victoria for their outstanding volunteer service as dog fosters. Lamb is where he is today because of your love and dedication to him.

He had undergone a tail amputation that later became infected. After being rescued, Benny had to undergo a risky second tail amputation which turned out to be a success. Here is he today, pictured together with his new family happy and ready to live out the rest of his life being spoiled!! We wish you all the best Benny, Ming, and Nappie!

Denny loved her so much he just couldn't let her go. Here they are pictured together - we wish you both all the best together!

Pooh Bear Finds a Home, All Smiles

Pooh Bear is smiling ear to ear in the lap of his new mommy, Victoria Smith!  Pooh Bear is happy today, but he had a challenging journey ahead of him before finding his forever home.  After he was rescued from MDAS in July, Pooh Bear had to undergo emergency surgery for an anal hernia that was preventing him from passing waste.  Its dogs like Pooh Bear who are at the greatest risk of being euthanized at MDAS because they are older and in need of costly vet care.

Fortunately, with the help of Palm Beach Veterinary Specialists, he was able to get through his surgery successfully.  Today he is able to live a happy and healthy life together with his new mommy.  Success stories like this are the reason Happy Tails continues to do the work we do.  We love you Pooh Bear!

15 Year Old Maltese Finds Her Angel

We are delighted to announce that BABY (re-named Vovo), a 15-year-old senior Maltese, was officially adopted this week! Vovo was a rescued from Broward Animal Control a few months ago where she was brought in as an owner surrender. Vovo is very thin (pictured to the left in the gray sweater) and has other compromised issues including being deaf, having a recessed eye, and so on.  Daniel Andrade adopted her into his life and home where she was joined by his two other dogs.

Daniel is amazing with Vovo…as a specially trained nurse, he has been hand feeding her each day helping her to put weight back on and restore her vitality. Vovo is truly blessed to be loved by Daniel and his family. Here at Happy Tails, we believe all animals have the right to a loving home and proper care no matter how old or in need of care they are.

Grateful for Finding Each Other

Kaylee (formerly named Zara) has found the perfect home, pictured here with her new mommy. Kaylee is such a sweet dog and was so in need of her forever home. She had been adopted from MDAS by a family who returned her two months later because they were moving out-of-state. Because she had been returned, she was scheduled to be euthanized in a very short time frame until Happy Tails Dog Rescue rescued her and found her a forever, loving home.

Her new owner, Tammy, had just recently had the second of her two older dogs pass away and was ready for a new companion. She started looking for a dog to rescue and once seeing her picture, knew she was the dog for her. We are so happy that Kaylee has found such a wonderful home!

We are thrilled to announce that Lucy was officially adopted! Lucy (named after Saint Lucia, the patron saint of the blind) was a rescue from MDAS where she was sitting in a cold cage, matted, scared, blind, and just days away from being euthanized with little hope of being rescued. When we learned of this poor little girl, we just had to save her. Once rescued, she received the much-needed care and love she so desperately needed. After living in foster care for many months, the Valderrama family found her and has welcomed Lucy into their hearts and homes; we are so happy for them all!

SPECIAL THANKS: We want to give special thanks to Jenna Davis, Omar Felix, and Barkingham Palace for helping to foster Lucy during her time of need transitioning into her forever home.

Poppi Adopted in Time for the Holidays

9/10/2014

Picture
Poppi is a very special boy. He was rescued from the C-ward at MDAS where he was next in line to be euthanized, hiding in the back of a cage scared with three of his paws wrapped up. His nails had never been trimmed by his previous owners and had grown into the pads of his paws causing them to become very infected.

Once his nails were removed from his pads, he needed medication and daily "paw soaks" to heal them. His foster mom Tricia (pictured to the left) did an amazing job nursing his paws back to normal and in the process fell in love with him! She adopted Poppi and spoils him like a little baby; giving him all the love he so longed to find. Poppi will be spending the holidays this year in his forever home.

SPECIAL THANKS: We want to give special thanks the O'Connor family for sponsoring Poppi. Their generosity made Poppi's journey from MDAS to a loving home possible.

Bringing Home Two Bundles of Joy

These empty nesters recently lost their beloved dog whom they had for over 15 years and were hoping to fill their home again with the pitter patter of little paws. When they met Fred (on left) and Ralphie (on right) at the shelter there was an instant connection. Fred and Ralphie began playing with each other and it was hard to resist the chemistry between them. Both of these dogs were rescued from MDAS and had difficult beginnings, but now they found each other and a great couple who will spoil them. It took the groomer 4 hours to shave Ralphie! We want to give a special thanks to Ralphie's foster mom, Jenna, and to Fred's foster mom, Debbie. You both did a tremendous job caring for these boys.

Charlie (renamed Charlie Brown) was rescued from MDAS as a stray who was found on the side of the road after having been hit by a car. This poor boy suffered severe lacerations on his body and had multiple pelvic fractures. What was so remarkable about this little guy was that even though he was is so much pain with all his injuries he was always so happy, full of energy, and loved giving kisses!

His then foster mom, Laurie (pictured here kissing him), fell in love with Charlie Brown and knew she was destined to be his forever mom. Today Charlie Brown is in good hands living in a house full of love together with his new playmate, Don Diablo (a Pomeranian), and cat friend, Mysoka. Congratulations! We love you, Charlie Brown!!!

A Truly "Happy Tale"

9/10/2014

This little baby was an owner surrender at MDAS, which means that her previous owners gave her up for unknown reasons. At MDAS she was scheduled to be euthanized due to the fact she tested positive for heartworm. We rescued her, days before she was to be put down, and treated her heartworm condition (thanks to help from Banfield Pet Hospital in Delray Beach). Here she is today pictured below with a big smile on her face posing together with her new family! She loves them and they love her very much. She is pictured below in her summer bikini ready for the beach. This is truly a "Happy Tale"!

Lola (formally named Dakota) is SUCH a sweet dog who found the perfect home! This little baby went from being at MDAS where she had no holds, at risk of being euthanized, to being in the loving arms of her new "mommy".

Her mommy Joelle says, "I am so happy and thankful to have her! I just love her so much. Words cannot explain how grateful I am to both of you for saving her life!" It's stories like this that make the rescue work we do all worth it.

Sammy was so happy when to be part of this family that he was jumping so high, running around showing off, and chewing on one of his new toys. We love you Sammy and wish you lots of luck with your new family!

Scruffy Finds a Loving Home

Scruffy is starting his summer off on the "right paw" with his new family. Scruffy is pictured here with his new playmates, Payton (the Beagle) and Allie.

Scruffy spent four months in a kennel facility, becoming more and more depressed, prior to Happy Tails rescue stepping in and saving him. When the Lopez-Ritzel family first saw Scruffy, they knew he was the one for them, but he was already in the process of being adopted by someone else.

In an interesting turn of events, Scruffy's first adopting family had to reluctantly pass on finalizing the adoption, making him available again! This gave the Lopez-Ritzel family a second chance at adopting him. They are so happy to have him as part of their wonderful family. We love you Scuffy!

Tink Brings a Family Closer

Tink was adopted by a wonderful family and welcomed by a new doggie bed fit for a princess! She had lots of new toys and a pink diamond studded collar to wear that we understand she "picked out" herself. When she entered the door to her new home, Tink ran right to her new bed and started playing with one of her toys!

Her new mommy Gina said, "I cannot even begin to tell you what a joy having Tink as a part of our family has been. She has really brought our family together again. You are doing a great thing giving these animals a second chance, but best of all these animals give the families that adopt them one as well."

Picture
Jane (formally named Simba) was rescued from MDAS by another rescue group when she was a 3-month-old puppy. At MDAS she was scheduled to be euthanized due to the fact she had no holds and was sick with distemper and severe pneumonia...she almost lost her life. Happy Tails Dog Rescue stepped in and funded her treatment while she was in the care of a foster family. Through a combination of rescue efforts, she survived and is now living out her life with a loving family!
